How to Use Your Address Book to Send out a Mass Mailing

March 6, 2008

address_book.jpgAs some of you probably know by now, I am a big supporter of Mac’s built in features and applications. However, I do use some third party software to help with my productivity but not much. Also, some people are dissatisfied with some of Mac’s built in features, but I am quite satisfied and can always find a hidden feature to make it work. Some of you who work from home and/or do freelance work, may need to send out a mass mailing to clients every now and again.

Instead of buying some new software or downloading some third party application, you have everything you need right at your fingertips. In order to print mailing labels, you will need to launch the address book application. If you have not done so because you have not been using it, you may want to create a group. This group can be called work, freelance, or what ever you want in order to distinguish it from your friends and/or family group. Then you should add all of your clients with their contact info into that group.

Once you are done entering all your clients into your address book, then you should click file on your toolbar and then click print. Once you click print, you will be presented with a print options dialogue box. First, you should choose “Address Book” in the drop down box below the “Pages” option, if this has not auto populated for you. Then, just below that, you should see the “Style” option and you should choose “Mailing Labels” from the drop down box.

Now, just below the “Style” option, there are two tabs; one is called Layout and the other is called Label. The first option under Label is “Addresses.” This is where you will need to choose from what group you want to print mailing labels. There are other options under tab, but they are optional. When you are finished, you should then click on the Layout tab. Under the Layout tab, the first option is “Page.” This is where you would choose the layout of the labels you want to use. You can find the layout information on the box of labels you have. Then send it to the printer, and you should have a beautiful sheet of mailing labels.

So then, as you can see, you can use your address book to send out a mass mailing without using any third party software and/or application. It is simple and easy to use. Readers, I would love to hear your thoughts. Please drop me a few lines when you get a chance.
